Alyssa's Story as a Neurodivergent Adult

Hi! My name is Alyssa and I am the co-founder of Flore Therapeutic LLC. Growing up, I knew I was different, but didn’t know exactly why I was or what was making me different. I thought it was just because of my personality and switching schools so much, I always thought it was due to external factors until I turned 24.
When I got into my twenties, I really started acting differently. I started waving my hands and saying things like “MOW!” like real loud like that, and yes, in public. Whenever I would get overwhelmed whether it be with happiness or negativity I would start doing these silly things and they would help to calm me. I would keep them inside as a kid and whenever I would get into an argument or really experience anything I would go into Hulk smash mode and break things, well, little did I know, this was all because I was autistic.
You see, I have something called level one autism which is a form of it where you can barely tell! I mean, most people don’t think I have it! Level ones tend to be obsessed with math, trains, other modes of transportation or just pick a thing and obsess over it. Mine is food and ghosts. I love all things ghosts and food…. Oh!!! And Jesus! I will stand in front of you for hours and hours telling you unsolicited information about ghosts, food, and Jesus. I also have an obsession over lions. Garry and I have five plush lions in total.
I also got diagnosed with OCD. I mention this because this is a form of neurodivergence. Many think it’s just autism but no, it can be that, as well as OCD, Down’s Syndrome, dyslexia… and many more, if you have one of these things you are neurodivergent and you know what that means! STIM FEST!!! Dsnfajkdsnkjgndjsnd !!!!!!! waves hands. Sorry, got a little carried away lol.
Anyways, when I was a kid, my parents knew I was a little different but back in the 90s, mental health wasn’t how it is now. It was kind of the stone ages compared to what it is now. No one knew what autism or OCD or even anxiety was, you were just… weird or different. Now as a neurodivergent adult I searched near and far for resources, but found absolutely nothing. Just resources for children. So we knew we had to start Flore Therapeutic to help people just like you. You have come to the right place. A place where neurodivergent adults can be… neurodivergent adults. My husband and I are here for you and we love you!
